My philosophy as a composer is that music is just as much a science as it is an art. I am inspired by astronomy, balance, symmetry, and the natural order of the universe, antiquely known as Musica universalis, or the Music of the Spheres.
Douglas Hofstadter said it beautifully in the subtitle of his Pulitzer-Prize winning tome, Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. There is an eternal golden braid that can be traced from Pythagoras to Ptolemy to Kepler to Werckmeister to Bach. My life’s work is to explore this braid, and my contribution is my music.
